Once the domain of the Algonquians, English and French colonists began arriving in New Hampshire in the 1600s and within 200 years had become the first British colonists to break free from the empire in North America. The Granite State has remained at the forefront of American politics ever since and has produced the likes of Horace Greeley, Franklin Pierce, Mary Baker Eddy, Robert Frost, Ronnie James Dio and Adam Sandler. ​

New Hampshire’s history comes alive in the ghostly tales that continue to haunt this New England state. A Revolutionary War fort is haunted by soldiers killed in an accidental explosion while a forlorn woman searches the tunnels underneath a state college in hopes of finding her unrequited love.  Christmas-themed inn is known for spirits that spook guests, and the wife of a jealous sea captain still haunts their colonial residence.
